Video Montage

March 31, 2009

These days, many clients ask Davis Deejays to provide an LCD projector, a giant screen and a DVD player to show a client provided video.  Usually these videos consist of photos of the bride and groom growing up, and then photos of them during the courtship period.

These videos are usually set to music and titles are added.

Usually these presentations run about 6 to 10 minutes and are played during the dinner hour so that they don’t take time away from dancing.

If you’d like more information about the reasonable cost for the equipment rental, call Bill Davis at Davis Deejays.  1-888-Davis-Dj extension 14.

Longevity Dance

March 29, 2009

If you have some senior citizens at your reception (grandparents or aunts and uncles) that you’d like to honor: have your Davis Deejay do an Anniversary Dance.

Your Davis Deejay will invite all the couples who are  “married and in love” to join you on the dance floor to celebrate the institution of marriage to a popular slow song. (By saying married and in love, every couple will come up, rather than feel the wrath of their partner.)

After a few minutes, he asks that anyone married under 10 hours to leave the dance floor. (This would eliminate you.) Then a few minutes later, he asks any couples who have been together less than 5 years leave the floor. A few minutes later he asks couples married less than ten years to leave the floor. Then 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, 25 years, He keeps repeating the process in five year increments until he has only two couples left. At this point he does it in one year increments until he has a winner.

He then goes over to the couple married the longest and asks them their secrets to marital longevity and advice to the new bride and groom. These comments can often

be quite funny. Recently, I asked a man how he managed to stay happily married for 64 years. He replied, “I was on the road a lot!”

The Anniversary dance does clear the dance floor, so a good time to do it is prior to a stop in general dancing. Perhaps prior to the cake cutting or bouquet toss.

Groom Key Return

March 28, 2009

Want to get the crowd laughing at your reception?  Want them talking about how much fun they had for weeks to come? Then  hand out keys discreetly to about ten or twelve woman throughout the room.  Make sure the women don’t tell anyone else at their tables about this.

Then, during the toasts, have the best man mention that “since the groom is no longer available, if anyone in the room has an old house key to the groom’s pad, they should turn it In now.”

The women then come running up and hand the keys to the groom. Usually the groom gets very flustered as the ladies keep handing him keys.

As the woman start coming up, your Davis Deejay could play a song such as  “ Hot in Herre” by Nelly,

“I’m Too Sexy” by Right Said Fred,” “To All The Girls I’ve Loved Before” by Willie Nelson and Julio Iglesias or “Just  A Gigilo” by David Lee Roth to to take the laugh meter up a notch.

Davis Deejays “Love Greeting”

March 28, 2009

Want to surprise your new spouse and impress your guests at the same time? Why not pre-record a special “love greeting” to be played back over  he instrumental portion of your first dance.

Davis Deejays will separately record two short audio files, one of the bride, and one of the groom. You will tell each other how much you mean to each other, how much you love each other. Whatever you want to say, in your own words.

In advance, your Davis Deejay will position these messages to play back during the instrumental portion of your first dance. Imagine your spouse’s reaction when they hear your love greeting as you gaze into their eyes during the first dance.  Imagine the crowds reaction as you share your feelings for each other with them. It will be a very special moment, thanks to the Davis Deejays “Love Greeting.”

Dinner Fun – Singing For Kisses

March 27, 2009

Looking to turn your wedding reception into a party as early as the dinner hour? Then why not have your Davis Deejay have the tables ” Sing for Kisses.”

The deejay will inform the crowd that at your reception tapping on glasses won’t get the bride and groom to kiss. But tapping on glasses will get the dj’s attention to stop the dinner music. He’ll then ask the glass tapping table to stand up in unison and sting a portion of a song with “love” in the title. Then, and only then, will the bride and groom embrace.

This kind of fun activity puts the crowd in a festive mood early. This primes the pump for a packed dance floor later.

How To Pick The Most Qualified Dj

March 26, 2009

They may forget the Prime Rib, the wedding cake or your flowers; but your guests will remember the great time at your reception for years to come..that’s if you chose the right disc jockey.

How can you separate the true professionals from the “Wannabes?” First, don’t take the word of smooth talking salesmen. Anyone can tell you anything on the phone. It’s a good idea to insist on a long list of verifiable references of satisfied wedding clients. If a company can’t provide that, they have problems!!

Also, make sure the company can show you performance videos of the actual disc jockey who will be doing your party.(Not just of montague of footage of people dancing, picked from several different parties.) This way you can match the personality of the deejay to your taste.

Make sure the company is large enough to provide you with a lively deejay with a sense of humor on mic (if that’s what you want,) or a quiet deejay( if that’s what you prefer) or a moderate deejay in the middle.

Make sure the company has a large enough music library to provide your disc jockey with the special music that you and your fiance identify with.

Make sure that the company has a “no advertising policy.” You don’t want your deejay hanging up ugly signs or banners or going from table to table handing out brochures.

Ask if the company uses employees or independent subcontractors. Companies with employees can put their deejays through intense training, and demand they abide by strict quality control standards. Companies that use independent subcontractors act as middle men for self employed disc jockeys. The first company takes it’s cut off the top and then sells your booking to the second business. The first company usually has no idea how the subcontractors handle the job. They lack quality control.

Make sure whomever you deal with backs up their promises in writing with a a guarantee that gives you more than just the money back that you paid.
The more confident a disc jockey company is that they will show up on time, with the right music and equipment: the stronger the guarantee will be.

A lot of disc jockey companies go in and out of business at the drop of a hat. In this economy, it is extremely important to deal with a company that has a long established track record of customer satisfaction. The longer they’ve been in business, the better your chances of dealing with a reputable company.

Service businesses deal with human beings and human beings can get sick or in accidents. Make sure the company you deal with can afford to pay
backup disc jockeys to be available. That way your party won’t be affected.

Deejay Versus Ipod

March 25, 2009

A Debate between Bill Davis of Davis Deejays and Percy, an Ipod.

Percy: I have 5000 songs that are the bride and groom’s favorites.

Davis: I carry 20,000 songs that will please the bride and groom- and all ages of their guests. Plus I have access to 425,000 other songs in the Davis Deejay”s library.

Percy: The bride and groom can pre-program me and I’ll play songs in the order they pick them.

Davis: The bride and groom can pre-request music with me as well. But I’m flexible. Dinner might start late, dancing might begin early. If we need to make adjustments, I can change gears much easier than a pre-programmed Ipod. And I can act as the emcee and guide everyone through the traditions. Can you do that Percy?

Percy: GIve me a break, Davis. You know I can’t change gears. I can’t make announcements, I can’t think. I’m just a hard drive. You’re taking advantage of my weakness. But I am reliable!!

Davis: Are you? I’ve seen Ipods freeze. When that happens, there’s no music! With a Davis Deejay: in the unlikely event there’s an equipment problem-we have backup.

Percy: But you gotta admit, I ROCK when you’re out jogging or on a plane.

Davis: You do rock, Percy. I’ll give you that. In fact I admit I have my own Ipod for playback on trips. But you’re just too darn inflexible and clumsy at a party.

Percy: But you gotta admit I ROCK when you’re jogging or on a plane.

Davis: Percy! Are you frozen again?

Percy: But you gotta admit I ROCK when you’re jogging or on a plane. Jogging or on a plane. Jogging or on a plane. Or on a plane. Or on a plane. On a plane. On a plane. A plane. A plane.

Davis: I rest my case.

Weddings-Introductions

March 25, 2009

Instead of having your name introduced just the same way you’ve heard it done dozens of times before, with the Davis Deejay saying “And now the new Mr. and Mrs. (your name here)” Why not do something special.

For very little money, you can have Davis Deejays in association with a professional studio in Dallas Texas, produce a personalized, professional “Shout.” The same jingle singers that do the jingles on TV commericals and for radio station imaging will enthusiastically shout your name.  Not only will this get your guests attention, but they’ll be impressed by the uniqueness of the idea.  This recorded announcement will set your reception apart from the pack.

By the way, for a few dollars more, your name can be SUNG as well.

Weddings-Fun During Dinner

March 25, 2009

Want to have a little fun during the dinner portion of your reception?  While background dinner music is playing and between bites, have your guests put on their thinking caps and come up with ”the top ten reasons the two of you should be married!”

Your guests will enjoy coming up with these ideas during dinner. Just have some pads and pens on the tables. Towards the end of dinner, your Davis Deejay will collect everything that was written. He’ll find the ten funniest and best reasons.

Then, at the end of the meal, prior to the first dance: your Davis Deejay will count them down      ”David Letterman style” complete with drum rolls.

To encourage participation, you can offer prizes to the people whos entries are used.

This definitely puts guests in a festive mood early.
